SC trooper accused of hitting man due in court

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina trooper caught on tape
using his patrol car to ram a fleeing suspect is expected in court
for a hearing on his federal civil rights charges.

Steven C. Garren's trial on charges he deprived a man of his
right to be free from unreasonable force by police is scheduled to
begin next month.

Garren's attorneys are expected Wednesday to argue several
requests before a federal judge in Columbia, including a request
that prosecutors turn over dashboard camera videos from other
officers at the scene.

In a 2007 dashboard video from Garren's patrol car released earlier this year, Garren drives after a running man, striking the
man when he crosses in front of the cruiser. The man flips over the
hood and into grass on the side of the road.

Garren has been suspended.
