COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is
keeping an eye on Hurricane Hanna while attending the Republican
convention in Minnesota this week.
Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor keeps in touch
with emergency officials and is ready to return to the state if
forecasters get a better idea that the storm may threaten South
Carolina.
Forecasters say the hurricane could hit the U.S. late this week
anywhere between Miami and the North Carolina Outer Banks.
Emergency officials across the South Carolina coast say they are on
heightened alert.
Hurricane Gustav, which came ashore in Louisiana, has already
affected Sanford. His Monday speech to the GOP convention was
canceled when organizers scaled back the event because of the
storm.
