NAACP: Film industry shows interest in S.C. boycott
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina NAACP leaders say they've courted dozens of people in the film industry and many have expressed interest in joining the group's boycott of the state. South Carolina NAACP president Lonnie Randolph declined Monday to give the names of specific actors or film companies. He said the organization plans to announce the names of its supporters in January. Randolph also said NAACP branches in several states simultaneously held news conferences and issued statements Monday in a show of unity for the boycott. The NAACP announced at its national convention in July a renewed boycott and effort to bring down the Confederate flag from a capitol monument. The flag that was moved to the monument after a deal brought it down from the building's dome in 2000. But removing it from a monument is pushing too far. It.s not that i like the flag, but it is a part of our history in this country we should never forget or repeat.
