By Bridgett Williams, bridgettw@nbcaugusta.com

AIKEN, S.C. - The Aiken County Coroner's Office has released the name of a man killed in a three vehicle crash on I-20 Wednesday night.

Jose Gonzales-Hernandez, 31, of North Charleston, S.C. died when his produce truck was hit by a tractor trailer near mile marker six.

The coroner says Hernandez drove through the retainer wires and veered into oncoming traffic in the westbound lane.

I-20 was shut down for several hours because of the crash.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and says weather was a factor.

This is the 27th deadly traffic accident in Aiken County this year.

A man died, which meant the coroner had to be called, a wrecker to move the truck and all the produce had to be moved. That will take 1 hour; maybe 4 hours. The man`s body could not be moved till the coroner pronounced him dead. I live close to exit 5 and there is no way to detour; only way to turn around would be cross the median and then hope another wreck doesn`t happen.

Two minutes before my son encountered the accident backup a white truck was going at full speed east in the I-20 westbound lane. That was about 9:15-20 pm. It scared the heck out of him. Then he was stuck in traffic for over 3 hours before he turned around.

We were there from 9:30 p.m. to 2:30 am, with no word from anyone. My husband tried to flag down a police car, but he would not stop. We called the state HP, N. Augusta police dept who then sent us to the Aiken County Sherriff's dept. Because we were not from this area, we did not how to go around this. At 2:30 AM, a police office finally came to let us know how to re-route ourselves. I feel terrible for this man's family, and we are praying for them.

My husband drives a truck and was held there for about 8 hours. We have only gotten a short story about what happened. Anything that took this much time should be of more importance than the brief item above.

My husband and I sat there from 10:00-1:00. We tried finding info on radio. Police kept going up and down the emergency lanes and none stopped to let us know to turn around. We did not realized that we could actually successfully and safely turn around. We tried telephoning scdot, state patrol etc. It was very dark. I feel that the police should have used their loud speakers to let us know to turn around.

It was still backed up about two miles at 6:45 this morning as I headed to Columbia. Trucks were on the side of the road. I guess they have been there all night.
