ACORN pulled out of SC 2 years ago

(AP)- Authorities say an activist group accused of voter registration fraud hasn't been a problem in South Carolina since it left the state two years ago amid an investigation here.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, known
as ACORN, closed its office in Columbia after a probe into its Richland County registration drive.

Voter Registration Director Lillian McBride said law enforcement was called when a woman reported receiving a voter registration card for which she never applied.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Thursday the South
Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigation continues.

ACORN spokesman Kevin Whelan said the "vast majority'' of its
workers are conscientious.
