AIKEN, S.C. - A former Aiken County school administrator charged with sex crimes against two students posted bail Wednesday.
Stephen Eubanks, a former principal of Paul Knox Junior High School and assistant principal of North Augusta High School is charged with several sex crimes.
Greg Lass says he is one of Eubanks victims. He did not plan to show up at court on Wednesday. He actually missed Eubanks' bond hearing, but said he was driving by the jail and felt compelled to stop to find out what happened.
Eubanks' bond was set at $25,000 and he left jail Wednesday afternoon.
Lass said he is the 14-year-old described in arrest warrants as being groped and grabbed by Eubanks. He said it happened when Eubanks, was his principal at Paul Knox Junior High School in the late 1970’s. Lass said Eubanks would allow him and a friend to leave school during study hall.
“We'd do whatever we want to. He'd treat us like we were special. We felt special. If the principal takes you out and gives you alcohol and you cuss and do whatever you want to around him you think yeah this is cool,” Lass said.
Lass said he remembers one incident in particular when Eubanks asked him to leave a school dance with him.
“He walked up on me and talked to me and asked me to go somewhere and the next thing I know we're at his home in his bedroom and he's fondling me,” Lass said.
Lass said all of this feels like redemption after years of silence. Eubanks is set to appear in court on December 5th. SLED is still investigating this case and investigators believe more victims could be out there. If you have any information about the case, call 1-800-414-2826.
