SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (NBC NEWS) - We all love our pets, our dogs, our cats, our hamsters maybe even a bird. But one South Carolina family has some pets that have many shaking their heads! Landa Berry of Summerville admits she has a few animals including a couple of dogs, three cats, a bird, even a flying squirrel, but none gets the attention of her pet skunks. What’s particularly unusual, if owning a skunk isn’t odd enough, is the fact that she has 42 skunks and they all live in her house. "The first skunk I got, I got because I had the blues," said Berry. These sorts of things always start small. Landa just wanted an interesting pet. And over the years, their knowledge of the animal grew. How wild ones need rehab and release and now domesticated ones need a home. And one thing leads to another and before long, you have Pepe Le Pew heaven. These skunks have all been de-scented for obvious reasons, thankfully. And the mere suggestion that this might seem a wee bit crazy, well, Landa simply responds... "No, I’m all right. The world is all wrong." The Berry's remain unfazed. They believe rescuing skunks and giving them a home is their calling. Domestic skunks have varied personalities but can be affectionate, silly and bratty. The main thing is they need attention or they'll eat their anxieties away and get obese. Not sure I'd have FORTY-TWO but hey, they're rehabbing the wild ones and freeing them, and just loving the domestic ones... why not? Inappropriate? Alert Us!

My main point was only being that I just can't imagine having a house full of animals. The way I was brought up, caring for people was always more of a priority than caring for animals. But then again, to each their own. Inappropriate? Alert Us!
