Sanford to return home on Wednesday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP)- A spokesman for South Carolina Gov. Mark
Sanford says the Republican checked in with his staff and was
surprised by the attention given to his secretive vacation.

Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor called his chief
of staff Tuesday morning. His last known contact with staff was
five days earlier.

Sawyer says the governor was taken aback by the interest his trip to the Appalachian Trail has garnered. Sawyer says the governor decided that with all the attention he'd return to his office Wednesday.

Sanford's wife told The Associated Press on Monday that she
hadn't seen him in several days and didn't know where he was.

First lady Jenny Sanford said the father of four left before the Father's
Day weekend to get away from their children and write.

What kind of a relationship does this man have with his wife that he leaves for days without even telling her where he is? He never heard of a cell phone and "I made it safetly, honey" ???

Please the man wanted a place to think and not listen to people whine. We have all been there.

This is more than a little flaky. The guy is a chief executive and has to be smarter than to just "go off". Don't think this is fatal to his career-but it sure won't help.

He needs to be held accountable for his actions. Any other person doing a no show, no call would result in TERMINATION, as well he should. He is upset things didn't go his way. Ultimately, he has to do what his boss, PRESIDENT OBAMA, tells him to do. This is a character to disappear and not tell family members where he was going. POOR JUDGEMENT and clearly not who I voted for or EVER will.

It's amazing that his four children didn't know his whereabouts on Father's Day. It's hard to beleive that he didn't even call them. That's pretty sad!

Witness the end of this man's political career. Bad press, a wife, family and staff left in the dark as to his location. Or if they knew they were not prepared to answer questions that could easily been anticipated. Whether this is stress, a meltdown or simply bad judgment I would rather see someone else at the helm of SC.
