COLUMBIA, S.C. - Thursday the chairwoman of South Carolina's Republican party says it might be time for the Governor to step down.

Her statement came after a SLED review said the Governor did nothing wrong.

NBC Augusta 26 was the only Augusta station with a reporter at SLED Headquarters in Columbia today.

"We have come away with absolutely no evidence or suggestion that any public funds were used in an improper manner," said SLED Director Reggie Lloyd

Lloyd says SLED looked into five trips, when the Governor says he met with his mistress, including a state-funded Commerce Department trip one year ago.

"He was on a business trip and what he did on his personal time is his own business," Lloyd said.

He says Sanford didn't use state money for the other trips.

Sanford's office says the findings prove he's broken no laws and say he has no plans to step down.

A spokesman says Sanford plans to spend the holiday weekend with his family in Florida.

Also Thursday, First Lady Jenny Sanford spoke out, calling her husband's acts "inexcusable." But she also said, she's willing to forgive him.

If he did not use tax payers money. Why is he writing a check? Do wrong pay later (no penalty). Just Pay when caught.
