Firefighters battle blaze at shuttered S.C. mill
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - A massive, shuttered mill in Rock Hill has caught fire, the blaze so large smoke can be seen in the next county. The Herald of Rock Hill reports a number of homes are being evacuated after the former Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Bleachery started burning Friday. The mill once employed thousands, but has been closed for about 10 years. City officials have been working on demolishing the plant and turning the complex that covers more than a city block into retail space. Firefighters said Friday evening the blaze was under control, but still burning. Flames were breaking through the roof and the walls of the old mill, and the smoke could been seen more than a dozen miles away in Charlotte, N.C. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
