GRANITEVILLE, S.C. - An injunction on higher water bills for people living in Graniteville and Vaucluse has been granted.
Aiken County Judge Jack Early signed the order Monday morning.
The decision means Avondale Mills can not collect on bills with increased rates as high as 700%.
The injunction also states the company can not impose late fees or cut service to customers whose bills were originally due August 15.
The injunction is expected to remain in place until the court makes a final decision on the water hikes.
Avondale Mills said the increase is needed because it can no longer subsidize its water.
The company's fabric plant was damaged after a deadly train accident and chemical spill in 2005.
