AIKEN, S.C. - Aiken police say a woman is in jail after she tried to run over an officer.

Investigators say last month Merita Carter was pulled over for speeding. She was then asked to get out of the car to take a sobriety test, but that's when police say she drove off, steering the vehicle in the direction of the investigator, who was able to move out of the way.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident happened in the parking lot of Maria's Restaurant at the intersection of East Pine Log Road and Powderhouse Road.

Investigators say a tip helped lead to Carters arrest.

Oh my! If this was Augusta itself, there would be a candle-light vigil if she broke a fingernail during the incident!

Judging by her picture, she looks like she is full of attitude!! She should be ashamed of what she did. The consequences of a speeding ticket,or a DUI, are a lot easier to live with than attempted murder! Lock her up and throw away the key!
