WHITE HOUSE (AP) - President Bush says, ``On this National Day
of Prayer, we ask God's continued blessings on our country.''
The presidential proclamation and similar ones from governors
nationwide invite Americans to observe this 57th annual National
Day of Prayer by seeking God's grace and guidance.
President Bush hosted a prayer gathering at the White House
this morning.
Other National Day of Prayer events are being held on Capitol
Hill and at thousands of public venues and houses of worship
nationwide.
This year's theme is ``Prayer! America's Strength and Shield.''
National Day of Prayer chairman Shirley Dobson says she hopes Americans will continue to pray for the nation every Thursday from now until the November election.
There are several prayer services taking place in the Augusta area.
The Sacred Heart Cultural Center is hosting a National Day of Prayer city wide celebration tonight at 7:00 p.m.
The event is cosponsored by Mayor Deke Copenhaver and the South Augusta Pastors Alliance.
