Father Of Murdered Musician Talks About His Loss

By NBC Augusta Staff

The father of the Augusta Symphony cellist murdered over the weekend is talking about his loss.

Dr. Whitney Reader says an officer came to his Wichita, Kansas, home early Sunday morning to tell him his son David was dead.

Investigators told Dr. Reader the 26-year-old was shot and killed in east Augusta after trying to buy $10 worth of marijuana.

Reader says he'll remember David's life and love of music instead of focusing on the brutal way he died.

"He was one of those rare people who could make you cry when he played music," Dr. Reader said.

David grew up in Wichita and his father is a cardiologist there.

Richmond County deputies arrested one of the suspects in David's murder, 16-year-old Tyrese Finey.

Investigators still need your help finding a second suspect, Anthony Joe, Jr. Call the sheriff's office if you have any information about Joe.
