Online banking may be headed to a school near you!

The Columbia County Board of Education gave the district the green light to pursue the technology.

NBC Augusta has learned Columbia County schools will test an innovative online payment center in at least three of its schools next year. Those schools include Riverside Elementary, Evans Middle and Greenbrier High.

Once the online system is up and running, parents will have the ability to pay for lunches, field trips and other after-school activities with just a simple Internet connection.

Payment may be made with a credit card, debit card, or even a transfer from a checking account.

NBC Augusta has learned there will be a minimal service charge for using the system. A part of that fee will be used to pay for the software.

The county is expected to decide on a vendor for the software within the next few months.
