Christian Giles of Evans was hit and killed by a car Wednesday night while she and her husband were walking their dogs. Neighbors believe speeding played a role in her death.
Neighbors told NBC Augusta constant speeding is an ongoing issue in their neighborhood and they want something done about it.
Steve Holodnak is one of Christian’s neighbors.
"It's horrible, I mean...I don't really know how else to put it," said Holodnak.
Investigators said Christian Giles, a teacher at Milledge Elementary School died after being hit by a Ford Expedition on Mulliken Road.
She was walking with her husband and her two dogs when officers say Brandon Wise hit her from behind.
Captain Steve Morris with the Columbia County Sheriff’s office spoke with NBC Augusta.
Morris said Wise told investigators he never saw Christian that night as he driving.
This Sunday would have been Christian's nine month wedding anniversary...a time for celebration. Now it's a time for grieving.
Neighbors say her death could have been avoided if drivers would just slow down.
Holodnak said, "There's constantly people who don't have kids and aren't paying attention and they're flying around the neighborhood."
The speed limit on Mullikin Road is 30mph. and investigators are looking into in this case.
"Right now I can't get into any details on the investigation but speed may be a factor,” said Capt. Morris.
Neighbor Steve Holodnak wants to see the speed limit enforced so something like this doesn't happen again.
"There's been more than one time where I've been out with my dog or wife and kids and had to pull them off the road and get in someone's yard because that's how fast people are coming down or around the curbs. It's a real tragedy that it had to get like this for it to get some people's attention.”
No word yet on whether charges will be filed against Brandon Wise, the driver who hit Christian.
Investigators tell are waiting on blood results to see if alcohol or drugs were a factor. They are also investigating to see if Wise was speeding.

What an absurd post. We all feel bad that something so tragic has happened, especially those of us who knew someone involved, but to make up some ridiculous 'what if' scenarios in order to move the blame around is just ridiculous. Accidents do happen, and whether this could or could not have been avoided, it was an accident all the same. Please let her family grieve without making them feel as if THEY did something wrong!
