They flew thousands of miles over the Atlantic to share a timeless message of love. Two dozen missionaries from Georgia-Carolina, including NBC Augusta's Tina Terry, are back home after a trip to the Netherlands.
On a rainy day in Delft, Holland, missionaries clipped hedges and cut weeds in a small garden. They wanted to send a powerful message.
"I think God's love can be expressed in many ways and this was just one way to share God's love," said Ashley Huggins, Augustan.
Four Americans from Augusta and Chapel Hill, North Carolina showed that love to Louise Visser simply by weeding her garden.
"I'm looking for help in my garden for two years now. I have a disease of the muscles," said Visser.
In one afternoon the team cleared two years of growth and prayed for Visser’s healing. It was all part of a mission called Diverse City. Each year the mission brings Christians from diverse denominations, tongues, and nations together to share the love of Christ through random acts of kindness.
During the trip participants learned why the outreach takes place in the Netherlands. It's sometimes called a Post Christian nation where prostitution and drug use are legal.
And some say many have never seen Christ's message of love.
"There's a real need to experience unconditional love here. There are a lot of people searching for something for fulfillment in something," said Michael Fuller, missionary from North Carolina.
Americans who traveled thousands of miles say it was their pleasure to fulfill that mission.
"If I can show the love of God to one person it's worth it," said Huggins.
