One of Augusta's busiest burglars is now behind bars according to Richmond County investigators.

There's a whole list of charges against Samuel Baxter surrounding a string of eight burglaries starting three weeks ago.

Investigators say Baxter hit up three stores on Tuesday night.

"Each and every time there is a damage like this it becomes part of the business loss," said Satish Patel. He has been working hard to build up the Get to Go store ever since he opened its doors a few months ago

"It does put you back," he said about the break-in.

Deputies say Samuel Baxter made off with about $1000 worth of cigarettes and lottery tickets, but it was a small part of a much bigger pattern.

"Those are the ones I'm willing to go to court over, eight of them right now," said Lieutenant Tony Walden. "I have about three or four more I believe this individual committed."

It's no surprise deputies are glad to have Baxter off the streets.

"There is another guy out there, but Samuel Baxter is responsible for probably about 90 percent of the ones that have been happening around the Walton Way/Wheeler area over the last month," said Walden.

Patel says he's happy to see Baxter behind bars, and now he feels a little safer.

"At this point right now, yes, at least one bad person is out," he said.

Investigators tell NBC Augusta Samuel Baxter was no stranger to the law.

He just got out of prison in January after serving several years for another string of burglaries.

The need to keep him locked up and throw away the key. Make him suffer like everyone of the stores he stole from. Keep him alone in a cell. No one to talk to or communicate with.
