AUGUSTA , Ga. - Augusta's Biggest Loser competition came to an end Saturday. Several contestants lost more than 100 pounds.
"He was always bigger than everyone else. He wasn't able to participate in the sports and things like that," recalls one contestant's friend.
There were lots of memories from family and friends of some of the 12 contestants that have gone through a six-month journey, losing 1,121.8 pounds, to be exact.
"It just seems like every day he was losing more weight and more weight. He would come over and say, 'how do I look? Did lose some?' It was just encouraging for me as well," says Shahanna Cobb.
The auditorium at Fort Discovery was packed as many sat and listened to the stories of all the "Biggest Losers". They heard about their struggles and motivations that kept them going throughout the six months.
As their stories ended, the losers were revealed to everyone with their new looks. That had the best friend of John Howard singing a different tune.
"Ever since he's been doing the 'Biggest Loser' he's lost more and more weight. He's able to play with his daughter, he's just so much more active, and he has so much more energy," says Jos Tesch.
"I'm ready to see if I can handle it, people like this guy, you know, and family they will make me keep it up so it's going to stay like this," says Howard. "It was totally an attitude change. You feel different about what you do and how you do it."
Then came the moment they had all been waiting for as Augusta's Biggest Losers were announced. This year's winners were Pamela Segers and Bernard Milligan, Jr.
Pam lost 115 pounds, 39.5 percent of her body weight, and Bernard lost 155 pounds, 36.82 percent of his body weight.
Like all the contestants, Milligan and Segers say they came too far to stop now and that it's now their duty to help someone else.
"Regardless of your age or physical condition that you can still lose weight if you just put your mind to it," says Segers. "I did and I'm here to declare if I did it anybody can do it."
"Just surround yourself with the right people and you can do it," says Milligan.
Pam and Bernard may have won Saturday, but as all 12 contestants found out, they are all Augusta’s biggest winners.
