ATLANTA (AP) - A new federal report shows a Veterans Affairs
clinic in Augusta was investigating improper sterilization of endoscopic equipment a month before a similar discovery in Tennessee set off a national review of VA cleaning procedures.

According to a report presented during a congressional hearing
Tuesday, a patient at the VA ear, nose and throat clinic in Georgia
questioned how a nurse was cleaning the equipment she had just used
for his procedure on Nov. 4, 2008.

The clinic was shuttered for seven days so the incident could be
investigated.

A similar discovery at a Murfreesboro, Tenn., VA clinic a month later set off a nationwide safety campaign over the discovery of errors that could have exposed veterans to HIV and other infections.

I don't worry to much about how the VA is cleaning equipment from what I have seen they have people come in from companys that specialize in cleaning the restroom and the stuff they uses to clean equipment with will kill anything out there. My worry is going thru the smoke and what ever else out there to get to the VA. Just walk the side walk between MCG and VA you will see all kinds of folks on the side walk smoking with IV poles fluid bags. what are you going to catch there.

If I am gonna have anything stuck up my rear end, you can be darn sure I am gonna see if come out of a package before they do their business. It is ridiculous that folks knew about the uncleanliness of the equipment but still chose to use it anyway. They should be held accountable.
