Jefferson County deputies were called to a home on the 1900 block of E A Goodson Road near Wadley, Georgia.
Investigators say Charles Heggs went outside his home and yelled for people to leave. He then pulled out a revolver and began firing. Heggs shot one man in the neck and then shot him himself in the leg.
Ricky Watson was rushed to the emergency room at Jefferson Hospital and later transported by helicopter to MCGHealth in stable, but serious condition.
Heggs was treated at Jefferson Hospital and then taken to Jefferson County Jail. He is charged with aggravated assault.
Both men had been drinking and were under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incident, according to investigators.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
