North Augusta City Council holds first meeting in new building

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - After years of construction, North Augusta's City Council went to work in it's new chambers Monday.

Just down the hall, it was all celebration at the opening of the city's new arts and heritage center.

Board member Angela Burkhalter says she has high hopes for the facility.

"To provide a venue for artists, to celebrate North Augusta's History, to have events. I hope it's a meeting place for the community," she said.

With plenty of art, crafts and a look back at the area's past, she says the new space could be a big draw. She's especially proud of the centerpiece.

"It's a model of North Augusta as it looked in 1910. It has the Hampton Terrace Hotel in it," she said.

All North Augusta departments will officially move into the new building July 13.
