Tuesday rains put 2009 into the record books

AUGUSTA, Ga. -  Heavy rains over the region on Tuesday make October 2009 the rainiest October since 1997 and the 9th rainiest October since 1950.

Augusta Bush Field received 1.44 inches of rain on Tuesday. This brings the monthly rain total to 4.73 inches. The average rainfall for October is 3.20 inches. The rain deficit dropped below 3 inches with the heavy rain.

The most rain recorded for the month of October is 12.80 inches in 1990. This occurred after Tropical Storms Klaus and Marco stalled over the region. This is also the most rain ever recorded for any month in Augusta.
