AUGUSTA, Ga. - A family of four narrowly escaped a fire that consumed their house Saturday.

The house located on the 1600 block of Douglas Street was destroyed beyond repair.

The owner of the home, Robert Davis, says he grabbed his one-year-old daughter and got the rest of his family out of the home before anyone was severely hurt.

“The majority of it was burnt. Most all our food and [my daughter’s] toys, her baby pictures, birth certificate, all that got burnt up,” Davis said.

The Red Cross has put the family up in a motel for the next three days.
