NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – Law enforcement shut down a teen club in North Augusta, just six months after it opened.
Club Fusion located on Jefferson Davis Highway was shut down Monday because of several fire code violations. However, North Augusta Department of Public Safety investigators say there's been constant violence at the club and the surrounding area since it opened in May.
"We're real concerned about the volume of calls we're getting there," said Chief John Thomas, North Augusta Public Safety. "There's some spillage over in some of the businesses surrounding it."
One month ago a man was shot while filling up his truck at the Greg's Gas Plus located right by the club.
NBC Augusta 26 News spoke to a scared employee after the shooting.
"Things just getting crazy every since they opened that teen club here; shooting, fighting there's always something around here on Fridays and Saturdays."
Last weekend officers were called to the club after a bomb threat was made. They did not find a bomb, but they did find fire alarms weren't working and there was equipment with gasoline in the club that shouldn't be there and shut it down.
Thomas says Club Fusion can reopen if it's brought to code, but the department is still concerned about the problems.
"The kids have to have some place to go certainly we understand that but when there's violence around that it causes concern and we're going to monitor it very closely," Thomas said.
The owner of Club Fusion did not return NBC Augusta 26 News' calls before the 6 p.m. broadcast.
Club Fusion is owned by the same people who owned Club Platinum in Augusta.
Platinum's license was taken away in February 2009 after being put on probation for repeated violence including a murder, several shootings, and aggravated assaults between 2006 and 2009.
