You might wonder why someone would venture to start a new business during the tough economy, but NBC Augusta found one woman who says now is the time to do it.

Several people have recently set up shop in downtown Augusta.

Ooollee Bricker owns Vintage Ooollee on Broad Street.

"I've always wanted to have a vintage store. I've loved vintage clothing my whole life," said Bricker.

Bricker opened her store on May 1 in downtown Augusta. She sells vintage clothing ranging from the early 1900s and up.

From shoes to hats, Bricker has a little bit of everything for women and men.

Some people might say she's taking a risk opening up a new store, especially one so unique. But she doesn't think so.

"People said what kind of market is there for vintage in Augusta and I said 'Well, I hope there's a market' and I feel that there is," said Bricker.

So far, she has been right.

"Business has been good, it's been well received."

Bricker has lived downtown with her husband since 1998. She says back then, the streets were empty after 6 p.m.

But now she says that's not the case.

"I feel that we're on the verge of a serious boom of business and all types of wonderful things in this town," said Bricker.

She has some advice for anyone thinking about starting a business during these tough economic times.

"I think that they should seriously think about it. If they want to get in, they better get in now because the prices are only going to go up,” said Bricker.

If what she predicts is true, spaces will be limited for future business owners.

"There are people coming in, scooping up places and I think now is the time. If you haven't done it before and you want to do it, do, do it now," she said.

Bricker isn't doing it alone. Michelle Hatman has a costume shop next door.

They've combined their two stores and call themselves "Broads on Broad."
