The Augusta Colts kicked off their first season at the James Brown Arena Thursday night. Hundreds of fans supported the the city's new team. It was just a few days ago, tickets weren't on sale and the playing field was in the parking lot.
Fans lined up game night, with a brand new indoor Augusta football team.
The Augusta Colts battled the Columbus Lions in Thursday's night's game. While the players were fighting to score on the field. Augusta Colts' General Manager says it's been a four month battle off the field.
"It's not completely done. It's not everything that I wanted it to be for opening night. But we're getting there," said John Sisson, General Manager.
It was just six days ago, the Colts reached an agreement with the James Brown Arena about ticket sales and game preparations. And fans weren't disappointed. They were happy to have a team represent Augusta.
"It was looking bad for them for a minute, with the field being out in the parking lot. But I guess things came through for them," said Rayford Moss, Colts fan.
"Everything starting up, always has a little trouble. But now they have a good product and we're looking forward to the game," said James Meek, fan.
"I think it's going to be an exciting game. Once it's kick off it's all about the game. Read the score in the morning and we'll see if we're in the top end of it," said Sisson.
It may have been a rough start. But with all the fan support, they know they'll have a great year.
The final score: Columbus Lions 54, Augusta Colts 44.
