Very few things in life are certain: death, taxes and South Aiken soccer. Friday night the South Aiken girls played for the state title. Saturday it was the boys turn.

The Thoroughbreds taking on Eastside at Memorial Stadium in Columbia. Story early on for South Aiken, the play of Chad Christiansen. Eastside came into the game having scored 19 goals in the four playoff games leading up to Saturday's title game, but they would get nothing by Christiansen in regulation.

This game would go to overtime scoreless. In the first overtime Eastside finally broke the scoreless tie with a beatiful cross in front of the net, but in high school soccer overtime isn't sudden death. South Aiken would storm right back.

Less than two minutes after Eastside scored the Thoroughbreds find the mark as Brett Van Pelt found the back of the net. Just like that we were tied at one, but South Aiken wasn't done. A few minutes after Van Pelt scored Allen Grier found the net to give South Aiken a 2-1 lead. That would be all she wrote as South Aiken wins the class 3A state title in an overtime thriller.
