AUGUSTA, Ga. -Chicken wings, pizza, and sandwiches and for some side of fellowship. Many make it a tradition to watch the big game with fellow worshipper. But soon the NFL could be changing that tradition.

“I think they should keep the tradition. I think it’s a great tradition,” said Marvin Head organizer of Super Bowl watch at Whole Life Ministries.

Football and fellowship, Super Bowl watch parties being held in church is a tradition for many. It's a tradition the NFL is trying to break, by cracking down on some of the rules. The NFL Network says some churches are charging to view the game, and they are showing it on big screen TV’s both which are against copyright rules.

“I hate that some people have actually added some bad blood into it by charging people, we would never do anything like that to take away from the football game itself,” said Head.

“That's a money issue the way that you describe it and that's no good reason to stop Americans from coming together and fellowship with another,” said Horace Carney a participant.

Members say that it's more than just watching a game.

“I don't see any reason to ban the church and to come against the church and trying to get together and just have some good clean fun and fellowship among members,” said Aaron Cohrs a participant.

The NFL says as long as churches follow the rules the tradition can live on.

In Indianapolis a church was charging members and viewers at their church to watch the game, and the church gathering was shut down.

When did it become wise to pass judgment on ANYTHING before having all the facts? All the people that jump to their keyboards to put their two little cents in make me sick. This is clearly a biased story just like all the rest. I have yet to see a news story without bias. Everyone needs to get off their soapboxes and admit that we do not have the whole story. I agree it is wrong for churches to charge to watch the game UNLESS food and beverages are being served. It is not out of the question to ask attendees to pay for the cost of food and drinks. I do not have the whole story so I cannot say with any certainty who is in the wrong. Cameron Kay, be careful quoting scripture. You might convince someone you know what you are talking about. How about this scripture... Judge not lest you be judged. By the way, many of you should go back to school to learn proper grammar.

Why the hell would I want to watch the superbowl in church, when I can yell, drink and hog the couch to my heart's content at home without some holier-than-thou smellsmock dog-and-pony show artist looking over my shoulder??

Quit wasting space with stories on religion. Bad enough these idiots clog up the TV on Sundays with all their garbage. I agree with Cameron Key. Bunch of money grabbing jerks!!

It's hard to justify an NFL broadcast as family viewing anyway. Every other commercial seems to glorify drinking, and how does a real parent explain that to a child? No TV in my house - thanks!

Could it be possible that the churches are charging for the food, drink and other associated cost (lights, air, heat....) or are they supposed to be free ?

Another instance of the church taking monetary advantage of anything they can. Isn't a tighe good enough? Isn't passing the offering basket around enough? Isn't special collections for specific causes enough? The church(es) should get back to basics and focus on fellowship ... without charge. What's next ... charging for a seat on Sunday m orning? Headling guest speakers for profit? Is this what it is really all about? Or is this the nabomin ation that the church has become? Jesus said "Give Caesar's coin to Caesar", he never mentioned giving anything to the Minister on Superbowl Sunday. Maybe some Ministers and some churches should more closely examine their motivations when it comes to collecting monies from the church body. And why is it that so many Ministers drive Cadilacs?

Nice bias in the article- by phrasing the title and introduction the way they do it makes the NFL sound like it is somehow attacking churches. The NFL is attacking copyright infringement, which any church (or other institution) is doing by charging admission to see the Super Bowl.
