In three years at South Carolina, Steve Spurrier is 1 and 2 against Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, but by his own admission the Gamecocks were just a few mistakes away from being 2 and 1 against all 3 teams.

And that's the message he's telling his players as we approach the start of the 2008 season, don't beat yourselves.

The Gamecocks will begin the 2008 campaign with a new quarterback as Tommy Beecher has been named the starter. New defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson will get a big boost to his defense as Jasper Brinkley returns from injury.

South Carolina open the season on August the 28 as they host NC State.
