Augusta State prepares to open 2008-2009 season

The 2007-2008 season at Augusta State was one of firsts. The Jaguars won 27 games and played in the Division II National Champsionship game for the first time in program history.

"Finish this statement: Augusta State will win the National Championship if. If we keep working hard and work as a team, and also have a little bit of luck. A lot of games could go either way and if we make the right plays at the right times we should be alright." said ASU forward Ben Madgen.

The 5th ranked Jaguars return three starters from last year squad which averaged 77 points a game. None of those returning will be bigger than 7 ft center Garret Siler. In games Siler scored 15 or more points last year Augusta State was 15 and 2.

"He's the rock. He is our foundation. He is the local guy and it's his team this year. We look forward to hime having a phenomenal senior season." said head coach Dip Metress

"I feel I'm important but I don't think I'm the only person on this team. If I don't score well I hope our team has enough strength an presence to still win the game." said Siler

Augusta State will open the 2008-2009 season on Saturday night as they host Benedict.
