Oklahoma's 44 point beatdown of Texas Tech on Saturday night once again throws a wrench in the BCS machine. With Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech all tied for the Big 12 South lead it will be up to the BCS to determine who will play Missouri in the Big 12 title game and ultimately may earn a spot in the national championship game because of it. In the latest BCS standings Texas remained ahead of the Sooners but Oklahoma still has a game against Oklahoma State and may jump Texas, despite the Longhorns beating them by 10 earlier this season, and get into that Big 12 title game.
In the other conference championship game that figures to decide a national championship game participant things are a little clearer. If Florida and Alabama win out, both still have rivalry games this weekend, they will play in the SEC championship game with the winner playing for the national championship.
Then you have Southern California sitting in 5th saying what about us. The Trojans, along with Florida and Oklahoma, have easily been one of the most impressive teams in the nation the last six weeks of the season.
We could have up to nine teams currently ranked in the BCS top 10 with one or no losses at the end of the season and it will be up to a computer to decide who the two best are? Computers are great for a lot of things but deciding a national champion in college football isn't one.
