USC Aiken volleyball falls to Montevallo in conference play

AIKEN, S.C. – Samantha Lukralle obtained a match-high 17 digs in USC Aiken’s 3-0 Peach Belt Conference loss to Montevallo on Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.

Montevallo earned a 25-19 win in the first game before obtaining a hard-fought 25-23 victory in the second set. The Falcons closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the third and eventual final game.

The loss drops the Pacers to 11-9 overall. USC Aiken is now 3-5 in the PBC. Montevallo improved its record to 12-9 overall with the victory over the Pacers. The Falcons are now 3-3 in the PBC.

Lukralle (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) was the only individual in the match with 15 or more digs with Anna Garrison leading the Falcons with 13 digs. Garrison was one of three Montevallo players with double-digit digs with Katie Johnson (12) and Katy Handrick (11) also recording double-digit digs.

Shannon Byers (Morristown, Minn./Faribault) was the other Pacer with double-digit digs with 13. Byers also led the Pacers in kills in the match with six.

Montevallo’s Katie Johnson led all players in the match with 13 kills and 12 digs. Johnson also recorded four service aces to go along with her double-double. Handrick had a double-double in the win over the Pacers as well, adding 11 kills to go along with her 11 digs.

USC Aiken’s Whitney Tabbert (Stewardson, Ill./Stewardson-Strasburg) finished with a team-high 14 assists, while Garrison paced the Falcon attack with 32 assists.

The Pacers are now off until next Friday when they will welcome PBC foe Francis Marion to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 16. The match will be a part of Greek Night at the Convocation Center.

The next day, USC Aiken will play host to PBC foe UNC Pembroke at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17. The match against the Braves will be Senior Day at the Convocation Center.
