Lincoln County prevails in rain over Washington-Wilkes

So important is this region 7A showdown that both teams took last week off to get ready... for what would be a nasty rainy night in Georgia-Carolina... jumping puddles and dodging raindrops in this one.

Washington-Wilkes scored first to the rainy skies on a 54 yard scoring play in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead. The Tigers had a chance to build on that lead as Lincoln County fumbled away the ensuing kickoff... but the Tigers couldn't take advantage and the momentum shifted.

Lincoln County then put a scoring drive of its own together, buoyed by running back AG Middlebrooks... and on a critical 4th and goal from the 3... Larry Campbell made the gutsy call to go for it with everything on the line... AG Middlebrooks carried it home... Vance Tarver kicked the point after... and the Red Devils danced into the lockerroom at half leading 7-6.

Lincoln Couty goes on to win it 14-6 and or the first time in the 86 year hsitory of this rivalry the Red Devils take the lead in the overall series. Larry Campbell's Red Devils improve to 6-1 and Russell Morgan's Tigers fall to 4-3 on the season.
