The hot spot in Augusta this afternoon was the head of the South Regatta is sponsored by the Augusta Rowing Club. All the big rowing schools along the Eastern seabord were here for this big season ending event... and lots of area powers as well, including Georgia, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Tennessee.... who also just happen to be football rivals as well.

NBC Augusta 26 Sports Director Stan Byrdy has the story from the Riverfront Marina.

Glad the station covered the regatta but sure wish you had talked up the fact that there were several hundred high school students with the different youth teams there including our own Augusta JR rowing team with 80 members. The youth teams came from all over as far south as Melbourne, Florida and Tampa. Our team works out 4 days a week 2 and 1/2 hours a day rain or shine. The newspaper did the same thing, mentioned that several of our youth participated. WRONG. 78 to 80 of our youth did.
