Charleston, WV – The Augusta GreenJackets (3-0) finished off the sweep of the West Virginia Power (0-3) on Thursday night with a 4-3 win in Game 3 to capture the South Atlantic League Championship. Starter Scott Barnes recorded the win and Nick Noonan had what proved to be the game winning hit in the fourth inning. Augusta took the early lead in the first inning chasing the Power starter. Thomas Neal had a two-out bases loaded walk then Garrett Baker reached on an error from third baseman Zelous Wheeler for a 2-0 lead. The Power cut the lead in half with a two-out RBI single in the second inning from Matt Cline. Augusta added two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single from Noonan with two outs in the frame for a 4-1 lead. West Virginia trimmed the lead in half again in the fourth inning on a one-out solo homer from Caleb Gindl. Barnes (2-0) worked six innings and allowed two runs on five hits for his second postseason win. David Mixon worked a perfect seventh inning and Andrew De La Garza closed out the final two innings allowing one run on two hits and recording two strikeouts. Augusta finished the season 93-50 including the playoffs and is home to the South Atlantic League Championship for a 10th time. |
