AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Augusta Bulldogs wheelchair basketball team has been called everything from inspirational to dynamic. They however, just want to be called athletes.
"These guys are athletes are athletes. We're not a feel good story. These guys play basketball and it's a very physical and aggressive sport." said Jeff Snover, Head Coach, Augusta Bulldogs.
"I played a lot of basketball before my injury and it's just been a blast to keep pursuing the sport I love." said Joey Nye, 8th year player for the Bulldogs.
The team features 14 players whose impairments range from spinal cord injuries to cerebral palsy. They say even though they face challenges every day the key is to keep a positive attitude.
"You have to punch yourself and want to do better things and want to strive to continue your life. Just because you have a disability doesn't mean time stops or your life ends there are many things you can do and accomplish." said Chris Bryant, 3rd year player for the Bulldogs.
