Forecast Discussion

A fast-moving storm system will cross the Southeast Tuesday and Tuesday night. Light rain is expected over much of Georgia and South Carolina Tuesday and Tuesday evening. Accumulating snow is possible in the higher elevations of north Georgia. Rain will end in the metro Aiken-Augusta area by 10pm Tuesday. Clearing will be rapid Tuesday night as the storm system moves rapidly northeast away from the region. This same system will bring heavy snows to the Mid-Atlantic and New England including New York and Boston.

Cold and dry high pressure moves in for Wednesday.

Our next storm system develops in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday. Clouds will rapidly increase Thursday with rain and snow possible Friday. With cold air in place, this storm brings our the best chance for snow we have had so far this season. The storm will likely move northeast and east across north-central Florida late Friday. Since this storm will be so far south, we will likely be on the northern fringe of the moisture. Nevertheless, we expect a swath of snow across the deep South from Texas to South Carolina late Thursday into Friday. The best chance for accumulating snow will be across central GA and SC Friday afternoon and evening.
