Georgia-Carolina firefighters spent the day battling nearly two dozen wildfires.

A fire in Beech Island destroyed a shed, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

And it all started when the owner was burning trash and left it unsupervised.

She says it spread in seconds

Unsupervised fires are a risk every day, but on Sunday it was much worse.

"Left unattended, in 15 to 20 minutes you never know when a gust can come along and make things out of control," said Anthony Lovett, Battallion Chief with Martinez-Columbia Fire.

The whole area spent the day under a red flag warning.

Officials ask that you avoid any outdoor burning, and be especially fire concious.

"Everyone just needs to be aware of how dry it is, things like cigarette butts vehicle windows as you're going down the road," Lovett noted, " all that could certainly come into play as far as a fire being out of control."

When those fires do grow out of control, it puts a big strain on fire departments.

And even without a red flag warning, you should still be very careful.
