Forecasted number of storms increases for 2008 hurricane season

So far this hurricane season, we've seen five named storms including Dolly and Edouard, which both slammed into Texas.

But now, new predictions are out, claiming this year may be more active than previously thought.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration now predicts between 14 and 18 named storms, with 10 becoming hurricanes. That's up from the 12 to 16 storms they had forecasted earlier this year.

NOAA is predicting more activity because of the lingering effects of La Nina and the multi-decadal cycle of increased hurricane activity that began in 1995.
