* Indicates storm made landfall in North America
+ Indicates major hurricane (category 3, 4, or 5)
Red indicates storm has already been named.

The hurricane name lists recur every six years. So, this year's list will be the same list for 2016. In addition, names can be retired if the hurricane is memorable for its strength and/or damage it caused, such as Andrew, Hugo, and Katrina. Once a name is retired, a new name is placed on the list in its place.

The list of names is maintained by both the National Hurricane Center and the World Meteorological Organization.
