Christmas Trees Suffering From Lack Of Rain
The worsening drought is forcing many cities in the southeast to impose severe restrictions on water consumption. Now it looks like the lack of rain may be the "crinch that stole Christmas." Christmas tree farm owners are also feeling the effects of the severe drought. One local farm in Tennessee has lost half of his Christmas tree seedlings this year. In all, Chad Reese has lost two thousand trees from his farm in Polk County. "Whenever you don't have no rain, the trees get under stress and they take on fungus. And before you know it, you've lost a whole tree," Reese said. The impact of the loss could be felt into next year without any rain anytime soon. And Reese says you can expect an increase in the cost of trees. |
