One year ago a tornado tore through Warren and McDuffie counties.

Along it's way it damaged hundreds of buildings and left dozens homeless.

Today, victims are still coping with the cost of the storm.

"My dream was putting a log cabin on this piece of property," said Dennis Hixenbaugh.

But after the tornado flattened his home and destroyed his property, he keeps everything left inside one shed.

FEMA did help him buy a new house, but signs of the storm are everywhere.

"I thought in a way when it was over, it was a blessing. Now, new home here, same land and all, I don't know what you'd call it," he said.

Just a few miles away in Thomson, construction is underway to replace the last house destroyed by the storm... quite a difference from the scene a year ago.

"This neighborhood alone... just about every house got at least a roof replaced," said Mike Carrington, Executive Director of Forward McDuffie.

"Everybody came together . . . and everything is just about whole again," he said.

But things are not even close to whole again for Dennis Hixenbaugh.

He says he's tired of waking up every day to reminders of the tornado. He's put his house on the market, and he's ready to move.

"To my dream, to get it the way I wanted it, there's just too much to go. I've got too much invested," he said.

Even if he does get away, it's likely he will never escape the legacy of March 1st.

"Last week I was laying in bed, just fell asleep," he said. "I had another dream of a tornado. I don't think that's something you ever forget."
