Severe Weather Damages Homes, Closes Roads, Downs Power Lines And Trees In the Augusta Area

NBC Augusta has received reports of severe weather in several counties in our viewing area. Viewers report downed trees and damages to homes and buildings.

NBC Augusta reporter Dustin Blanchard reports a mobile home has been destroyed in Phinizy Corner in Columbia County near Appling. Several other mobile homes in the area were damaged.

We're also told there is significant damage in Wrens, Georgia, that's in Jefferson County.

Dispatchers in Edgefield County tell us at least one business and one home received major damage.

We're also getting reports about significant damage in Saluda County.

Georgia Power tells us at one point 10,000 customers in the Augusta area were without power. According to SCE&G more than 13,000 customers do not have power in Aiken, Saluda and Barnwell counties as of 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

We're also getting reports of several roads closed in Columbia County because of downed trees and power lines.

The USC Aiken Convocation Center has rescheduled the Lipizzaner Stallions until Sunday at 6 p.m. The Convocation Center was not damaged, but there are downed trees and power outages in the area.
