State Of Emergency And Curfew Issued For Aiken County

By NBC Augusta Staff

A state of emergency has been declared for Aiken County and Sheriff Michael Hunt has issued a curfew starting at 8:00 p.m. due to storm damage throughout the county.

The curfew is in effect until 7 Sunday morning.

It includes the area from 118 bypass south to Atomic Road, between Pine Log Road and Ascauga Lake Road.

That includes the Midland Valley and Graniteville.

Sheriff Hunt told NBC Augusta that is the area with the most damage.

He said there is major damage in Bath, including many roofs torn off, including the water tower.

As a result about 300 homes in the Bath Water District are without water.

And when the water comes on it will be under a boil order -- he said to boil it at least 10 minutes before drinking.

The Sheriff said he is sure the damage was from a tornado -- a deputy spotted a funnel cloud in Bath.

Power is still out in much of the county.

Hunt said there have been reports of looting, so he's asked several agencies to help put more law enforcement on the ground. He says looting will not be tolerated.

Will this curfew be lifted?

Wow! I am an employee at Kroger in Aiken County, who shall remain anonymous, and I cannot believe the danger that Kroger has put its customers and employees in over this! We had several power outages over the course of the early evening where the whole store screamed, people running around like crazy confused and disoriented and Kroger did not once make any sort of announcement whatsoever as to what was going on or to make an effort to let anyone go for this curfew!
