Emergency workers in Jefferson County tell NBC Augusta several homes were damaged or destroyed Sunday morning.

They say Louisville was one of the hardest hit areas.

In just minutes, a storm ripped the roof off of 10-year-old Benito Garcia's home.

"They got a blanket to cover us because we were soaking wet and freezing cold", Garcia said.

He and his family spent the day Sunday trying to protect what's left until they can rebuild.

What happened to the Garcia home is an example of what you'd see driving through Louisville.

The storm downed power lines, blew trees into roof tops and crushed cars.

Some people just missed the severe weather.

Gee Davis lives just a few houses away from the Garcia family.

"I was taking a shower and I couldn't come out because I was buck naked", Davis said.

By the sound of the storm he thought he was going to lose everything.

"You see those trees over there, I had like four or five, I was lucky", Davis said.

What took mother nature just minutes to destroy will take the people of Louisville weeks to rebuild.

The school superintendent in Jefferson County tells NBC Augusta classes are canceled at Louisville Academy, Louisville Middle School, and Jefferson County High School Monday.

The school staff will report to work at the normal time.

All other public schools in Jefferson county are open Monday.
