Tornado touches down in Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a tornado touched down in
Clemson, knocking down trees. No injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service says a spotter saw the tornado
around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Clemson University spokeswoman Robin Denny says the storm
knocked down a number of trees, especially near the school's
football stadium. Some cars were damaged.

Pickens County Emergency Management Director Don Evett says
several homes and an apartment building in the city of Clemson were
damaged, but no injuries have been reported from the storm.

The western half of the state was under a tornado watch, and a
number of warnings have been issued as bands of storms from the
remnants of Tropical Storm Fay moved across South Carolina.
