AUGUSTA, Ga. - When Friday started, Augusta's rain deficit stood at nearly 7.50 inches. When Friday ended, the deficit was a much more manageable 3.61 inches.
That's what record rains will do to a deficit. Augusta's Bush Field, the official weather reporting station for the metro Aiken-Augusta region, racked up 3.33 inches of rain Friday. That shattered the old record for November 14 of 2.13 inches set back in 1871.
Our storm spotters recorded amounts between 2 inches and 5 inches for the day.
To put it in perspective, this was the most rain in one day for Augusta since 3.41 inches fell on March, 27, 2005. And Friday's one-day rain total was more than we've recorded over 25 of the last 35 months!
So far, 4.08 inches of rain has fallen this month. This makes November 2008 the wettest November since 1997 when 5.02 inches fell on the area.
