AUGUSTA, Ga. – Most of the hard rain has stopped; however, the NBC Augusta 26 News weather team says flooding this season is something to look out for.

Richmond County Emergency Management spent Wednesday watching for flooding.

Rae's Creek in west Augusta is the first place emergency management crews check.

The roads near University Hospital are another place to watch out for.

Rocky Creek in south Augusta is also a low lying flood area.

“We've done a lot of work to ensure the people of south Augusta are safe,” Chief Willis from Emergency Management said.

Willis says it’s also important to watch out for fallen trees. Sometimes heavy rain causes the trees to fall over.

Flood watches have been cancelled for the rest of this week.

However, 26 News’s weather team says we're currently in an El Nino year. This means a lot of rain this winter.

Chief Willis says it’s important to be prepared for this flooding and flood insurance is something to look into if you live in a low lying flood area.
