AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta-Aiken area dodged severe weather Saturday, despite many of the ingredients coming together that could have produced strong storms.
Severe weather did not develop over our region because rain-cooled air kept the atmosphere more stable than many of the computer forecast models had indicated. In addition, storms fired over south Georgia all day, limiting the transport of moisture to the north.
Parts of west and southwest Georgia, as well as eastern South Carolina did see severe weather Saturday, including hail, wind damage, and even two tornadoes.
Much of the Augusta-Aiken area was under a Tornado Watch most of the day. Rainfall totals generally ranged from 1.5 to 2.5 inches.
